NEW LONDON – Minnesota artists are encouraged to apply for a four-week residency program for New London’s first Small Stages Artist Residency this summer.
The program is open to a location-based performance artist who wishes to develop, expand or adapt their art by creating new and original interactive art experiences or performance installations for a small audience of 1 to 12 people.
The project would be based on information gathered from the New London Community and include a series of introductions to the community organizations, networks, parks, government and historical centers of New London.
The town’s small theater will be available for the artist’s main work area, and a grant housed three blocks from the theater and a bike will be provided for inner-city transportation.
The aim of the program is to develop new approaches to the way our citizens interact with each other and with common spaces, especially in times of isolation, division and insecurity, according to the project organizers.
As part of the program, sponsored by the New London Little Theater and the New London Arts & Culture Alliance, the artist will be asked to host an open studio session or workshop, an informal presentation of his ongoing work, and up to three closing performances or performances.
The four-week residency begins on August 6th and lasts until September 5th.
