MIDDLESEX CENTER, ONT. – Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) announces it will start asymptomatic testing on March 10, while London District Catholic School Board (LDCSB) started testing last week.
The Ontario Department of Education has mandated that two percent of personal elementary and secondary school students receive voluntary asymptomatic testing each week.
Mark Fisher, Director of Education at TVDSB, said in a statement, “We’re excited to be facilitating student and staff audits as part of the Department of Education initiative to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in our schools and communities.”
At the Public Authority, the tests will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons at high schools selected in collaboration with public health officials. Children and daycare workers are also included in the tests.
The board says parents will be notified on Monday of each week whether their child is eligible and how to register. A list of locations can be found here.
The Catholic authorities started testing for a group of schools in one location last week and will be relocating the tests to a different location every week.
Students and staff will be contacted directly if they are eligible for the exam that week. More details can be found here.
Voluntary asymptomatic tests for school staff are readily available at local pharmacies.
