Several local organizations have joined forces on a new program that they hope will strengthen London’s troubled live music sector amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“Revive Live” was launched on Friday and aims to “strategize” the safe reopening of venues and public concerts in London.

The initiative is organized by the city-run London Music Office, Downtown London, London Arts Council, London Economic Development Corporation, Old East Village BIA and Tourism London.

In the first phase of the initiative, performances will be broadcast from various music venues across the city over the coming months. So far, five free Saturday night concerts have been announced, with Texas King and Sarina Haggarty playing at the London Music Hall on February 27th.

In a statement, the city’s music industry development officer said the local live music sector “grew steadily” until the pandemic last March. More than 4,700 events were held each year and nearly 1,000 full-time positions were filled.

“The live music industry has been one of the hardest hit by this pandemic and will be one of the last to recover,” said Cory Crossman, describing music as the heartbeat of London’s cultural community. Those particularly affected by the pandemic included Call the Office, the famous downtown music venue that was finally closed at the end of last year.
