London, Ontario, Dad needs individuals to cease calling his son about COVID-19 vaccines – London

A father from London, Ontario is asking people to stop calling his son about COVID-19 vaccine appointments after the family was plagued by dozens of wrong elections from those looking for a shot.

According to John Tennant, the misdirected calls started earlier this week when the Middlesex-London Health Unit launched a telephone booking system for COVID-19 vaccine appointments.

According to health officials, the booking system received around 120,000 calls within 20 minutes of opening the phone lines.

Shortly afterwards, Tennant and his wife heard his son’s phone ring. When Tennant asked his son why he wasn’t answering the phone, his son replied, “I’m getting COVID calls.”

“I brought his phone upstairs … and sure it rang and it’s a little old lady who said, ‘Can I book my COVID appointment, please?'” Tennant said.

Confused, the father asked the woman where she got the phone number to which she answered the London Free Press.

“They read it to me, the phone number, and they gave me my number and I said, ‘Well, that can’t be right,” Tennant said.

“So I looked online and found that the font that Free Press online uses is one of those fonts that has some numbers in small letters and some in large letters.

“So it looked like the last digits were 3500 when they were actually 3560.”

According to Tennant, his son has received more than 30 calls in the past few days. It is now the father’s job to direct people to the correct number when they call.

“I thought it was a little nicer than pretending to make an appointment,” joked Tennant.

Tennant adds that he doesn’t get too involved in the misdirected calls since he worked from home for his family business, Ontario Wall Beds.

“When I’m on the line with a customer or something, having the attendant on can get annoying, but otherwise it’s no big deal,” Tennant said.

For those seeking a COVID-19 vaccine, appointments are offered to certain health care workers, indigenous peoples aged 55 and over, and all other individuals aged 80 and over.

Appointments can be booked via or by calling 226-289-3560.

“If you’re not looking for a Murphy bed, you can give me a call,” added Tennant.
