Macfarlanes wins London finance associate


A debt finance partner brought 20 years of experience to the Macfarlanes finance team in the United States.

A debt financing partner brought 20 years of experience to the Macfarlanes finance team in the UK.

Malcolm Hitching joined Macfarlanes‘London office as a partner after three years Ropes & grayand an earlier 13-year job Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF).

During his time at HSF, Hitching advised high-profile clients such as Virgin Group and affiliated companies in relation to their financing needs and as a consultant to the internet service provider Yell Group (now) Hibu) on a rescheduling of 7.4 billion USD.

Previously, Hitching was also with for seven years Norton Rose Fulbright.

Hitching specializes in alternative lending, leveraged finance, specialty finance and private equity and has an excellent track record in areas of strategic importance, the senior partner said Sebastian Prichard Jones, in a statement.

He added that “his work with loans and other alternative loan funds is particularly relevant as we have been involved with these industries from the start and they remain a central part of our practice across the company to this day.”

Strengthening the supply of loans and secured financing in London, Cahill Gordon & Reindel put the head of Allen & OveryThe leveraged finance division and one of its capital market partners last month. In May, Owen Ross brought 12 years of experience CMS‘Finance team, also in London.
