“City of London giants caught in the crossfire of Labour-Tory economic battle”.

Britain’s Labor Party has held off setting up a new business council after senior Conservatives intervened with financial services firms due to take part.

Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt has spoken to at least one business about Labor’s latest plan to present itself as the best party for business and economic growth, a person familiar with the situation said. Another person said Franck Petitgas – the former Morgan Stanley banker who became an adviser in Downing Street earlier this year – made a series of calls to companies that Labor said would be presented to the council ahead of next week’s annual conference would join Liverpool.
