New London is Connecticut’s newest cultural district. Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz announced the honor, which is now being bestowed on three Connecticut communities.
A cultural district is a walkable concentrated area rich in historical sites and art institutions. Bysiewicz said the New London borough includes entertainment, food and all kinds of art.
“So many great things are happening in New London,” Bysiewicz said. “All you have to do is look at some of the construction work such as B. new apartments.”
Recognizing the area as a cultural district allows for more funding and outreach to raise awareness of the area.
“New London will be a center for art, culture and tourism. It will be a center for job creation,” she said.
Cultural attractions in the area include the Custom House Maritime Museum, the Garde Arts Center and New London’s Black Heritage Trail.
