Former Ashurst Global Managing Partner James Collis has joined Norton Rose Fulbright as partner moves in London continue in June.
Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld has also added a Mayer Brown partner to its range of financing options in London.
Collis joins Norton Rose after three years at Squire Patton Boggs previously worked in Ashurst’s London and Paris offices for 14 years. From 2012 to 2016 he was Global Managing Partner of Ashurst.
He has particular expertise as an acquisitions and leveraged finance attorney, advising both borrowers and lenders on investment grade and sub-investment grade transactions and working on restructuring and distressed finance matters, Norton Rose announced Monday .
“We thank James for his contributions to our financial services practice over the past three years and wish him well,” said a spokesman for Squire Patton Boggs.
Meanwhile, Akin Gump has added Mayer Brown’s partner Dasha Sobornova to his structured finance team in London.
Sobornova has spent the last three years at Mayer Brown, where she was a banking and finance partner and led the firm’s European collateralised loan obligation practice, according to LinkedIn.
She has experience advising arrangers, investment managers and issuers on a wide range of structured finance including securitization regimes and funding in the EU and UK.
Akin Gump has hired a number of finance jobs in London in recent years, most recently Clare Cottle in April 2021 by Weil Gotshall & Manges.
A spokesman for Mayer Brown said: “We can confirm that Dasha has left the company and we wish her all the best in the future.”
Both companies have seen a lot of sideways movement in London so far this year. In May, Norton Rose added a Duo rental from EYthe same month as Loss of Intellectual Property Partners of Linklaters. Meanwhile, Akin Gump lost a London partner last week US rival Weil.
