Souvlaki Street opens its first permanent London location in East Dulwich

If sunny Greek getaways are on your mind, then we have the ideal warm-up for you in the form of Athens-inspired dining in a new London location. After almost 10 years in business, popular street food market stall Souvlaki Street is opening its first stationary home on North Cross Road in East Dulwich.

If you’re a regular in East Dulwich you’ll already be familiar with stuffed flatbreads in the hands of happy shoppers every Saturday at North Cross Road Market, which is currently serving savory fare on Souvlaki Street. And soon, just a two-minute walk down the road, there will be souvlakis every day of the week.

Founders Evi Peroulaki and Conor Mills, formerly in publishing, started serving souvlakis at Hackney’s Chatsworth Road Sunday Market in 2014 before trading them in various street food markets across London, including for four years until September 2022 in Pop Brixton. After much uncertainty and pivoting during the pandemic, with DIY kits available to ship nationwide via The Dishpatch since early 2022, Souvlaki Street is happy to have finally found a permanent home.

The concise menu features rare farmed British Old Spot free range pork and locally sourced chicken in warm, handcrafted Greek pitas in a variety of combinations, with locally produced halloumi available at The Veggie-Wrap. The aroma of vine tomatoes, Cretan oregano, fresh parsley, red onions and tzatziki and souvlaki sauce should be immediately transporting.

There’s even Greek cola and Greek lager to fully immerse you in your island vacation fantasies.

Thanks to Nigel Hogan for pointing out the opening.
