The newly formed New London Arts Council (NLAC) will hold its inaugural session on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at 7 Governor Winthrop Blvd., New London.

This initiative was launched by individual artists and arts-related nonprofits and businesses in the city with the aim of identifying and creating opportunities to meet the artistic needs of the New London Arts community and, if necessary, with the city and the community State to work together to empower the arts in New London. The Mayor’s office and administration, as well as the Southeastern CT Cultural Coalition, provided support and guidance throughout the process.

A volunteer steering committee, consisting of individual artists from artistic disciplines, small and large non-profit art organizations, and municipal art companies, met over the course of last year to build a structure for the new organization that is inclusive and inclusive of representatives of the current art scene in the City. The stated mission of the New London Arts Council is to “encourage and serve a vibrant, inclusive arts community”.

NLAC meetings are open to all artists in the city. An interim council selected by the steering committee will serve to strengthen membership and community support for the first six months, leading to the selection of the first official council leadership later this year.
