All garden waste collections in Richmond were suspended as garbage collectors were forced to self-isolate.

The five-day cancellation is intended to prioritize the collection of household and food waste in the district and will last until Friday.

In Barnes on Monday (July 26), some streets could no longer be recycled – again because workers had to self-isolate.

The council says missed collections will be restored within two business days.

The Richmond Council said on its website: “Due to a number of collective crews who have to self-isolate, we do not have enough staff to continue all routes.

“As a result, some collections are affected, while we give priority to the collection of household and food waste.”

Thirteen garbage collectors in Wandsworth and Richmond were not sick from Covid last week.

This is because dozens of councils in England have faced delays in their garbage collection due to staff isolating themselves from being “pinged” by the NHS Track and Trace app.

Serco, who has been hired to collect trash by Richmond Council, has refused to provide more garbage collectors to self-isolate in the district.
