Health officials in London have issued a one-day heat alert for the area as base temperatures are expected to hit 31 ° C in the next 24 hours.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit added the warning on Sunday afternoon in addition to a heat warning from Environment Canada.
The weather agency’s forecast for Sunday predicts temperatures will reach 31 ° C, with Humidex levels close to 42 ° C.
Despite possible rainfall, overnight conditions will provide very little relief from the heat as the temperature is expected to remain at 20 ° C.
“If you’re going outside today, you should have water nearby and access to shade or an air-conditioned room to recover from the heat,” said Dr. Alex Summers, the associate health officer. “Although we think that summer is drawing to a close, the weather conditions would suggest otherwise. The UV index is also very high these days, so make sure you use sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat when you spend time outdoors. “
The heat alarm is expected to persist until Monday morning when temperatures drop to 29 ° C.
