Unscrupulous East London supplement manufacturer has been shut down

GoNutri Limited is registered at a residential address in East London and was wound up in the High Court on 12 February 2019 for breach of commercial probity, improper dealing practices and improper sales techniques.

After confidential investigations, bankruptcy trustee investigators found that GoNutri was targeting the elderly and vulnerable, bombarding them with cold calling and high-pressure sales techniques to coerce them into buying vitamin and mineral supplements.

Using an overseas call center to market the products, sales reps would occasionally mislead customers into believing they represented health centers in the UK or elsewhere in the NHS.

Products were sold at gross inflated prices and the same item could be sold at different prices ranging from £11 to £49.99.

Some customers were told they had not paid for the items and were forced to pay multiple times for a single product, while others received items they did not request before being forced to pay.

A victim, who was 91 at the time, reported being harassed with calls claiming that the card payment was not working. When the customer asked the call center to send him an invoice by mail instead, the employees refused. This prompted the 91-year-old to write another check, although the customer later found out the bill had already been paid the first time.

And in another example, an 84-year-old was persuaded to place three orders on purpose because he would not feel the physical benefits until after the third installment.

Investigators found that Go Nurti targeted around 409 customers with an average age of 85 and that the dietary supplement company had sales of around £128,000 between May 2016 and June 2018.

The hearing was before Justice Snowden, who issued the winding-up order in the public interest.
